About Sailing in Samoa
Sailing in Samoa is a vibrant and integral part of the island nation's culture, deeply rooted in its maritime heritage. The pristine waters surrounding the islands provide an ideal setting for both recreational and competitive sailing.
The Samoa Sailing Association (SSA), acting as the managing national authority in collaboration with Samoa’s Association of Sports and National Olympic Committee (SASNOC) and World Sailing (WS), oversees the sport’s development and governance.
At the grassroots level, the Apia Yach Club (AYC) fosters a love for sailing among the youth and community members.
On the global stage, the Samoan Sailing Team (SST) proudly represents the nation at the Olympics and other international competitions.
Additionally, the Samoa Sailability Program offers people living with disabilities the opportunity to experience and enjoy sailing, ensuring inclusivity and accessibility within the sport.

Our Goals
Our website is to enhance awareness and enthusiasm for sailing by enlightening the public about the Samoa Sailing Association (SSA), the Samoan Sailing Team (SST), and the Samoa Sailability Program.
SSA acts as the liaison between SASNOC (National Olympic Committee) and local clubs, managing Olympic sailors, international representatives, Pacific Games participation, and securing grants from the government, World Sailing, and other organizations.
SST goals are to achieve competitive excellence, develop future talent, represent Samoa with pride, expand participation, secure resources and support, promote sustainability, and enhance visibility through media and community engagement.
The goals of the Sailability Samoa program are to increase accessibility to sailing for individuals with disabilities, promote inclusivity, provide specialized training and support, and foster a love for sailing within a diverse and inclusive community.
Our mission and vision
The SSA promotes sailing in Samoa for all skill levels, focusing on participation, international recognition, community engagement, inclusivity, sustainability, and cultural preservation. Their vision is to make Samoa a top sailing destination in the Pacific, with a mission to provide high-quality training, support new clubs, and celebrate maritime heritage to lead Oceania in the sport.
Our work so far
The SSA has boosted sailing in Samoa by establishing clubs, training sailors, and increasing participation in competitions. They expanded the Samoa Sailability Program for individuals with disabilities, engaged the community, and preserved maritime heritage. Their focus on sustainability and inclusivity has set a strong foundation for a flourishing sailing community in Samoa, with ongoing efforts to achieve future goals.

Apia Yacht Club
The Apia Yacht Club, nestled at the edge of Samoa’s stunning Mulinuu peninsula, is the heart of sailing in Samoa.
Serving as a hub for both seasoned sailors and newcomers, the club fosters a vibrant sailing community through regular events, training programs, and social activities.
The Apia Yacht Club plays a pivotal role in promoting the sport from grassroots to competitive levels.
It is home to the Samoan Sailing Team, which competes on the international stage, and supports initiatives like the Samoa’s Sailability Program, ensuring sailing is accessible to all, including people living with disabilities.
